KCEDF Acquires Jackson Property
August 29, 2003
Janet Frederick, Executive Director
of the Kiowa County Economic Development Foundation (KCEDF) has announced
that the Foundation has purchased nearly 800 acres of land south of Eads,
commonly known as the Jackson property, for future development. Following
nearly a year of negotiations, the Foundation closed the land purchase on
August 27th.
While the Kiowa County Commissioners
were in full support of the development of the property, they and the
Foundation Board felt that KCEDF would be the best organization to both
purchase the property and handle its development.
According to Frederick, the
acquisition of the land is a significant opportunity whereby an investment
could be made in Kiowa County’s future. The Foundation has already
partnered with the National Park Service, SCEDD, CSU, and others to
explore plans for development of the property.

"The land will likely be developed
in several ways", Frederick stated, "but in a planned and coherent manner
that will not compromise the integrity of the way of life we enjoy in
Kiowa County". Frederick also stated that public input regarding potential
uses for the property is always welcome.
