Julie Rife made business calls about
town in her new job with Lamar Community College as the Lifelong Learning
Director. She distributed schedule books for community education classes.
She and Ed and the girls moved to Willow Valley in Lamar. Their three
daughters attend school at McClave.
There was a good turnout of Eads
Senior Citizens August 20th for the noon dinner and business
meeting.. Their next meal time will be Thursday evening, September 4th
at 6:00 p.m. for pot luck sandwiches and side dishes. On September 17th
they will have a pot luck noon dinner meeting.
Tiffanie Gooden EHS 2003 grad began
classes at Otero Junior College in La Junta last week. Three 2002 grads
are continuing their studies there, Bleu Ellis, Leslie Laird, and Jalynn
Richards.
Faye Barber has been in Denver to
attend the family reunion of the Barber-Walker families. While she was
there, her daughter, Shirley, and her mother-in-law, and Faye took a tour
of the Molly Brown House. Faye said that was a real treat for a history
buff.
Phyllis Vanderwork’s niece, Dianna
Meyer, and her daughter, Stephanie, and daughter-in-law, Sherill Spellious,
from Moline, Illinois, had lunch with her and her husband, L.G. at the Our
Place Restaurant last week. Joe and Sheila Sheilds of Vilas and their
three grandchildren joined them for the meal.
Our sympathy to Ken Baer of Eads
whose father passed away. His services were held in Las Animas last week.
FFA Instructor, Lance Jagers, has
been a busy man with so many youth exhibiting at the Colorado State Fair.
The 14th and 15th, Lesa and Vance Cole, Tyler
McCracken, and Hunter Uhland showed their hogs in showmanship and market
classes. On the 16th and 17th, Ashley Brown and Jace
Roberson showed their lambs, and on the 17th and 18th Lesa and
Vance Cole showed their goats. Brandon Cordova and Lance left after
football practice to get his calf to Pueblo for the show. Brandon won his
calf in the "Catch it and Keep it" contest at the National Western Stock
Show last January.
Ula Robertson of Bennett, and Kenny
and Cathy Robertson of Arizona spent the evening at the Haswell Westenders
Senior Mexican Supper last Wednesday. They were pleased to have Ula’s
brother, Norris and Beth Rush come over from Cheraw for the evening.
Some individuals and clubs are
making plans for floats in the county fair parade. The theme this year is
"Pages from the Past".
Pansy Foxworthy returned last week
from a visit to Kansas City with her families there.
Phil and Madonna Pollreis of Wiley
stopped by to visit us Friday morning. They were on their way to Denver to
attend the memorial service for their great nephew, Kyle Davis, on
Saturday. June Blooding, Tim and Sylvia Weeks, and other friends and
relatives from the area attended. Kyle’s grandmother, Phyllis (Wissel)
Griswould’s Eads classmate Pastor Rita Anderson Basham, led the service.
A bus full of folks from the
Westender Senior group had a great time at the Colorado State Fair and
seeing the rodeo and exhibits last Friday.
Kiowa County Rodeo Queen Lesa Cole
and Princesses, Chelsea Batterton and Alicia James rode in the Arkansas
Valley Fair Parade in Rocky Ford last week. Lesa and Chelsea also competed
in the Youth Rodeo. Alicia had to return to school in Karval that day. All
three young ladies represented our county in the Colorado State Fair
Parade Saturday morning dressed in their glittery red, white, and blue
cowgirl attire.
Harvey and Kathy Shade of Eads are
bursting with joy over their first grandchild,Saige KayLynn Torres, whose
parents are Adrian and Audrey of Greeley.
