About Town

Larry ad Nola Engstrom of Eads went
to Denver over the weekend to see their new great grandson, Keegan, son of
Amy. Then they went to the wedding of Amy’s twin brother, Adam, in Denver
on Saturday the 16th.
Tuesday evening was the annual
county worker’s family picnic at the swimming pool and of course that is a
popular place because the kids live to swim. Afterwards, some of the
families went to the County 4-H Council meeting.
Hazel Kreuger of Eads exhibited five
quilts at the Colorado State Fair and won five ribbons. Congratulations to
Hazel in this stiff competition.
Opal Miner, Sis Howard, and Doris
Lessenden went to Kit Carson last Tuesday to help Lutheran Women’s
Missionary League ladies serve the funeral dinner for the family and
friends of Judith Holt who formerly lived at Wild Horse for most of her
life.
Maxine Voss was pleased to have
family and friends come to Weisbrod Sunday afternoon to celebrate her
birthday with her.
Thanks to Dora Gulley who wrote a
letter from her home in Ludell, Kansas. We miss our former neighbor but
she has several places of work and service in northern Kansas.
There were even more vendors at the
City Park Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Louise and Marvin McCrary had
cantaloupes in their pickup that they had brought from Rocky Ford. Louise
said they would be back next Saturday. Amy Weirich was selling wonderful
varieties of fudges she had made…one could even eat a sample. Elaine
Lindholm and her boys had lots of home items plus vegetables. And one just
can’t resisted those bake goods by Fran Larrew and Kristie Maltbie.
Dorothy Ellicott and Linda Eder had varieties of vegetables, honey, and
other items. That is a fun place to go on Saturday morning.
Casey and Lindsey (Baxter) Sheridan
had a big yard sale by the Baxter Agency Saturday. We want to say best
wishes to this young couple who were married earlier in the summer.
Arla Durrett’s birthday was
celebrated with a party at Weisbrod Nursing Home Saturday afternoon with a
number of her family and friends.
Neil, Connie, Jamie and Wes
Richardson spent two weeks in Florida on vacation with Neil’s brother and
family.
A memorial service will be held for
the family and friends of Kyle Davis son of Rhonda (Griswould) and Kent
Davis, in Westminister Saturday the 23rd.
Megan Fickenscher and Milly Spady,
of Kiowa County were our county’s representatives in the State 4-H Fashion
Show Saturday night. Megan sewed a white wool coat and Milly sewed a black
sheath dress that can be worn with a black and white checked coat.
The Eads community honored Dr.
Bozena Biernat and family with a pot luck supper. Friday evening. There
were more folks who wanted to attend but they were attending the wedding,
football practices, and other activities. However, we do sincerely thank
this dear family for being a part of our community.
Darci Weeks and Nick Johnson
received an abundance of bridal shower gifts Wednesday evening and then
many family and friends gathered Friday evening at the United Methodist
Church in Eads for their wedding.
Brandon Hoffman graduated from the
DeVry Institute in Kansas City last month and is now working in the
computer field there. Congratulations to Brandon. He joined his
grandmother, Lougene Jacobs, and Tom, Lana, and Preston Hoffman, and Debi
Hadley of Eads in Tyler, Texas, for Lougene’s family reunion.
