Obituary - Louise Bentley 89

Louise Adams Bentley, 89, died Friday, August 1, 2003 at Doctor’s Hospital in Montclair, California of natural causes. She was born December 21, 1913 in Waterloo, Iowa to John Bickley Adams and Lulu Maude (Akins) Adams. The Adams family was large, with 3 daughters and 6 sons. Louise was their third youngest and last surviving child.

She spent her early years in Waterloo, Iowa, Little Rock, Arkansas and later Silvis, Illinois, where she became a Registered Nurse. After marrying Merlin Grant Bentley, she raised her family of 4 boys and 1 girl in Eads, Colorado. She was very active in the Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She worked in the family store during the day, as a Registered Nurse at Weisbrod Memorial Hospital at night, cared for her family, and was active in the PTA. She divorced in 1963 and has lived in California since 1968. She worked for many years at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood, California, where she was the Surgical ICU Charge Nurse when she retired. She lived with her daughter in Diamond Bar for 7 years and in Chino for the last 4 years. Louise derived great pleasure from her love of flowers, quilt making and the joy her church friends and duties gave her. But, her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by all of her children: Robert (Susan) of Hicienda Heights, California, Roger (Adell) of Wheatland, Wyoming, William (Shirley) of Maricopa, Arizona, Marjorie (William) Seifert of Chino, California, and David of Montclair, California, by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lulu Maude Adams; by 8 brothers and sisters: John, George, Robert, Ruth, Phoebe, Carl, Thurlow, and David.

The funeral will be at the Custer Christiansen Mortuary Chapel in Covina, California at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003. She will be buried in the Eads Cemetery, where there will be a graveside service on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Mourners are invited to the home of Marjorie Seifert after the service for food and drink Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association either directly or through Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel who was in charge of local arrangements.
