May Valley Speedway July 26 Race Results

Last Saturday was an exceptionally hot day with hardly a breeze, but at 7 PM Grand Marshal Jordan Sena said to the drivers, "Good Luck, start your engines" and a great evening of stock car racing got the green flag at May Valley Speedway.

Sixteen Mini Stocks were up first with two Qualifying Heats, eight cars each, while race fans continued to fill the stands. Engines roared and tires squalled as the competition heated up. The first Heat was a real good race with #41 Marco Macias in first place. The second Heat had two visiting cars from Syracuse, #61 David Guinn and #69 Dwayne Bowman who race at Dodge City and had heard so much about May Valley Speedway that they wanted to come over and join the competition. First time visiting cars are allowed to race one night if they are close to the rules, however, they must comply the next time they return. Heat #2 was won by #3 Jared Hays.

Next up were the Hobby Stocks in an excellent race. On the white flag lap, neck and neck, #24 Seth Salisbury and brother #20 Shawn Salisbury crossed the finish line almost dead even with the win going to #24 Seth who was on the inside. The Hobby Stock second Heat Race kept the race fans cheering as #2 Phillip Munoz took the lead with #19 Keith Stegman right on his tail all the way to the checkered flag.

Next up were the IMCA Modifieds. Four cars made up their Heat Race. #3 Brady Coen was first to the checkered flag.

Now it was the Super Stocks turn which was a fierce bumper to bumper race. #86 Justen Beakley held the lead all 10 laps. The second Heat was just as good with #2 Angel Munoz and #5 Andy Woller putting on an exciting show. However, Andy was first to the checkered.

At 7:50 PM the Hobby Trucks were racing and things began to happen. After a spinout and a restart, there was another spinout which resulted in #43 Cameron Austin’s black Chevy rolling onto it’s side in the back straightaway. By 8 PM, #90 Keith Nidey was declared the winner. The second Heat was won by #92 Keith Eldon Nidey driving a good race.

By now the track surface was just like asphalt, black with rubber, smooth and shinny and slick! Now it was time to test driving skills and feather the horsepower.

The first Heat in the Econo Class was won by #73 Justin Rainwater. The second Heat in the Econo Class was won by #1 Kreg Welch and brother #2 John Welch in second.

The Mini Stock Cash Dash was won by #3 Jared Hays. Hobby Stock was interesting as cars spun and parts flew. #2 Phillip Munoz finally over took #19 Keith Stegman for the cash win. The IMCA Modifieds screamed into action as drivers swapped positions. #3 Brady Coen drove a smooth line to victory. Next were the Super Stocks. The four fastest cars of the evening were given the green flag. #12 Kelly Yutterman slid a little high out of turn 4 n the white flag lap. As Yutterman and #2 Angel Munoz raced side by side, the win went to #2 Angel. Hobby Trucks kept the fans cheering as #80 Reese Spady captured the checkered flag for his first win of the racing season. The Econos had quite a few spinouts during their Cash Dash. John Welch in car #2 was the winner.

The Jr. Fan Club’s sack race was lots of fun as the crowd cheered. In the 6-9 age group, Kyle Dupree was first with Kyle Crow in second. In the 10-13 age group, Andrew Egley came in first with Brandon Rhuda in second.

At 9:05PM, sixteen Mini Stocks got the green flag putting on a good race with lots of action. #3 Jared Hays was excited and very happy winning his first Main Event. #61 David Guinn finished second.

Thirteen Hobby Stocks made up their Main Event. They made it through the entire race with three and four cars wide in a good clean race without a yellow. #97 Jimmy Jenkins won his first Main Event with #2 Phillip Munoz right on his rear bumper for second place.

The IMCA Moidifieds were inverted for their Main Event. #3 Brady Coen slowly worked his way into second place as #21 Darren Deloach had taken over the lead. Halfway through, #3 Brady Coen made a clear pass under #21 Darren Deloach coming out of turn 4 with #8 Frank Perez right on their heels. #3 Brady finished first, #21 Darren Deloach was second and #8 Frank Perez third place with #12 Larry Lebon in fourth.

The Super Stocks stayed all bunched up together bumper to bumper side by side for 25 laps to the checkered. #6 Joe Shoup wins by 6 feet over #2 Angel Munoz and #44 "Hard Luck" Max Butner finishing his first Main Event this season was in third place.

The Hobby Truck 25 lap Main Event went very well. #43 Cameron Austin took the win with #90 "Papa" Nidey finishing second.

The last race of the evening was the Econo Class. Green flag, turn one, big pileup on the first lap and then a "restart". After several yellows, a couple of crashes, a hood flying open, more spinouts and a couple black flags, the checkered flag dropped. #2 John Welch was the winner with #20 John Welch finishing second place.

"It was a real good night of close competition with lots of excitement," commented track promoter Don Woller. "I made a change in preparing the race track surface just for curiosities sake and it was the wrong thing to do. I apologize for the dusty track conditions. The track will be better for the next race on August 9 when the Colorado Outlaw Mini Sprints will race with us for the last time this season at May Valley Speedway."
