Wild Horse Roundup

I think this weekend was a first for me as I missed the Tumbleweed Festival in Cheyenne Wells. Family comes first, so I went to Denver with Marty and Lee for a gathering of family and friends for a baby shower for our grandson Nathan’s wife, Bernice. She is expecting a boy about August 21. That will make us seven great grandkids. There was a large crowd and Steve barbequed hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwurst. It was a nice time and we got home about noon, in time for 2:30 church. We had quite a crowd, all five of us.

Luanna Naugle had surgery on her neck for a blood clot. We were told that Allen went after her today (Sunday). I understand that she can’t work or drive for quite some time. Noella Johnson has been taking care of the Kit Carson Post Office and Sue Paintin takes care of the one here. Our prayer is that she continued getting better and will be up and going soon.

Chuck Keller called me the 15th and wondered if it was as hot 64 years ago. That is when his folks, Owen and Alice were married in Lamar. Peg Pursley and I stood up with them. Lee said it was hot, but all I remember was trouble getting a license and finding a preacher.

Lee has been going to Hugo twice a week to get her hand taken care of with therapy. It seems to be doing real well and her fingers don’t hurt now. There seems to be quite a bit of carpal tunnel, Yvonne Schallenberger had both hands done, Lee had one and Marty has to go see about hers the 7th, which is the day that Kirsti gets here.

Well, we just got a dozen drops of rain which reminds me of a song old timers might remember: RAIN: Rain when you gonna rain again rain grow the golden grain again shower your blessings on me. Oh the sheeps in the meadow the cows in the corn they know that something is wrong for old mother earth can never give birth when your away so long. So rain make it green in lovers lane again, rain for my gal, and me again, shower your blessings on me. The words might not be in the right order, but this is the way I sing it. I sang it for some ladies in Hugo a few days ago and they thought it was great.

Kit Carson had 64/100 Darrell Schallenberger said. Bob Dutro called Marty and said they had an inch east of Karval. Our turn will come.
