About Town

Al and Mary Riechel of Greeley spent
the weekend with their daughter, Laura and husband, John Negley, and
children Jennifer and Jayce. Jennifer’s, grandmothers, Mary Riechel and
Dorothy Negley of Eads, came to see Jennifer give her Creative Cooks 4-H
presentation on her Norwegian Meal of a beef-vegetable soup Saturday at
the District contest.
Laverne Eder has an interesting tree
near their home on Goff Street. There are no apples on the south side of
the tree and yet on the north side, the tree is loaded. It was nice to
visit with our neighbor.
Dr. Biernat and some of her family
were in Wisconsin to look for a home. We surely hate to lose our good
neighbors. Her neighbors enjoy watching her swift walks to the hospital
down 13th Street.
Our neighbor, Mona Walker, grows
such pretty flowers for us to enjoy. Last year, she stuck the tall red
rose buds through the knot in her wooden fence. This year, she already has
blooming moon flowers, zinnias, and marigolds along the alley fence.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dixon hosted a
6th birthday party for their son, Dylan, Saturday afternoon. He
had several little boys as guests, cousins, and other family members for
water games and homemade ice cream. Dylan had fun decorating his own
birthday cakes around the Hulk theme.
Mr. and Mrs. John Watts and Haley of
Paola, Kansas, came by to visit us Thursday morning enroute to their home.
L. G. and Phyllis Vanderwork of Eads
and Dixie Scott of Broomfield, New Mexico had Sunday dinner with Robert
and Marilyn Hopkins of Towner. Phyllis said they had such a good visit
with these folks who have been friends for years.
Out of town guests, Beulah Glover of
Lamar and Donald and Jan Pettiger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Chandler
and Ashlyn Miner were lunch guests in the Wayne and Alice Glover home in
Eads. Other guests were Rick, Coy, and Chevaun Glover, Bill Glover, and Al
and Jo Forrester of Eads. The Glovers really do appreciate their friends,
the Forrester’s, who take time to visit Wayne’s mother, Beulah, in Lamar
each week.
Vinton and Mary Ellen Englehardt of
Eads visited their daughter, Tina Foster, and family in Texas this month.
They enjoyed bringing their little three year old granddaughter, Samantha,
home for a week. They also got to see their six month old grandson.
James Deverman returned from the
Chicago area last week after spending time with his Albuquerque
grandparents at their summer cabin. He said he had a great time seeing the
sites of several cities.
Members of 4-H are busy finishing
their project requirements for the August 4th 4-H Achievement
Day which will be held at Plainview this year. I admire their
determination to do their best.
Barbara Seay and sons, Mike, Steven,
and Matt, flew to Minnesota Friday to spend some time at a family reunion
near a lake. Most of Barb’s family and the Arth family live in that area
so they were excited to see relatives again.
Last week a Kit Carson coach called
to ask if the coaches here could get up a T-Ball game, so they got
together some little tots for a game Thursday evening. Lots of family
members and friends really turn out for these games, even on short notice.
We had fun watching people and the children from the car.
