Rambling Back with Rip

I am writing this on Father’s Day
from the Ponderosa campground in the Rocky Mountains. My father and
Barbara’s father have each passed on and we still miss them. If your
father is still living be sure to let him know how much you love him.
Until you get older you never really think about all the sacrifice your
parents have made for you. In raising your own kids you get an idea. We
all owe them a debt of gratitude.
We have made the long trip down I40
and north on highway 285 to our summer camp. We are located about halfway
between Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico. We ran into a sand storm
East of Tucumcari, New Mexico and the wind was blowing about 60 mph. It
was so strong it tore part of the metal siding loose on our camper. We put
some tape over it to hold until we got to camp. When we filled up with gas
after that it only figured out to 3.7 miles per gallon. Not good!
Everything is fairly green here.
They had a lot of snow up on the Pass and in the high country, but not
much here in camp. There have been several showers until about a week ago.
The Conejos River is high and swift so the fishing is no good right now.
We have been hiking a lot each day.
After church this morning we took a picnic lunch and went up the pass to
hike the Red Lake Trail. It is 4-miles up to the lake. It is an old
volcano crater and covers about 30 acres. The elevation is 11,500 feet so
it is quite a hike up there. We got to the top so we could see the lake.
There was still a lot of snow up on top.
