Eastern Colorado Receive Federal Transportation Funding

$3 million received for the Wiley Junction project on US HWY 287

Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) recently received a check in the amount of $3 million on behalf of the Colorado Department of Transportation, from U.S. Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta. The funds will be used for the Wiley Junction reconstruction project on US Highway 287 in Southeast Colorado. Musgrave requested funds for this important transportation project to help facilitate major safety improvements.

"It is gratifying to see safety and transportation in Eastern Colorado are important to the administration and I am thankful for their work in helping to fund this project," said Musgrave upon accepting the grant. "This will significantly improve the safety around Wiley Junction."

Musgrave originally submitted a request for federal funding for the Wiley Junction project on April 15, 2003 to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies. The funds were included in recently passed Transportation Appropriations bill (P.L. 108-7).

"Colorado has experienced unprecedented growth in the last decade, resulting in increased demands for transportation and infrastructure improvements," said Musgrave. "Reconstructing these portions of U.S. 287 is vital to providing greater safety for travelers, and more efficient freight transportation. It is a high priority for Eastern Colorado."
