East End EventsWith all of the moisture the area has received lately, a nice green hue has settled over the pastures, fields, and yards. Unfortunately, rain has not been the only moisture that has fallen. Last Friday evening, a short but destructive hailstorm rolled through the area, damaging many fields and seriously lessening the upcoming harvest for several farmers. An unoccupied trailer home and a cattle trailer were blown over in some tornado-like activity and windbreaks and trees were damaged by the high winds and hail. Sarah and Andrew Caywood of Buhler, Kansas were in the area last week visiting their grandparents, Carl and Freda Schmidt. The two spent Friday night with the Berggren family, and then Saturday, Amanda Berggren spent the afternoon with them at Carl and Freda’s. Sunday, Freda took Sarah to Ness City where they met Esther Caywood so Sarah could return home, Andrew will be staying for another week or two. Gloria, Tera, Trista, and Taylin Donaho of Colorado Springs visited Olive Hopkins for a few days last week. Floyd and Wynona Barnes traveled to Deshler, Nebraska to visit John and Delinda, Cassandra, Rio, and Tyra Morhmann and to take Mackenzie Mohrmann home. Mackenzie had returned home with Floyd and Wynona from Greeley and spent a few days with them. Mary Louise Huddleston has been quite busy over the last couple of weeks with numerous visitors stopping to see her. Jason Huddleston, her grandson, spent a day with her. Then, last Monday, Mike Huddleston of Burlington and Sharon Scott traveled to Wichita to attend a friend’s funeral. Dick and Sharon also spent several nights this past week visiting Darrel and Doris Anderson. Darrell has been in the hospital recovering from double pneumonia. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he is doing better soon. Well, that about wraps it up for this week. I’ll be writing the news for the next few weeks while Kami is out of the country, so if you have anything to add, give me a call.
