About Town

Congratulations to Dick and Sharon Scott of Towner on their 40th Wedding Anniversary. We guessed by the photo in the Press that they may have been the honored couple. We have known these 4-H kids since they were 4-H members back in the ‘50’s.

It was nice to see the big Diamond Tours bus pull into Eads Saturday evening.

Forty seven local people from various communities returned to Eads after a trip to Branson, Missouri. They didn’t look tired and report that they had a fabulous and fun time on the tour with making new friends and having good visits with family members who went.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Norman Whaley whose funeral was last week. He was our country neighbor for many years and was known as a fine farmer. God bless his wife, Lena, and family is the prayer of his friends.

We had a number of rains last week. This made me and other people who have been praying so much for rain very happy. We went for a little ride Saturday evening and Sunday. I am thrilled to see how good the wheat looks and how wonderful the prairies and the prairie flowers and yucca look blooming among green grass where we have seen mostly brown for over a year.

Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Kinnaman were Denver visitors Monday. They were glad to have his mother here for the weekend recently.

I was glad to have Maxine Mays and Charlotte Woelk call on me Tuesday. I really appreciate friends and good neighbors. All are such blessings to me. Let’s all be better neighbors to others around us.

The Eads senior citizens had their June First-Thursday- night- supper last week. They had ham sandwiches and played cards. It’s always a nice social time with good food and fellowship too.

4-H members returned from Camp near Beulah last mid-week. They tell me that they didn’t have the rain we had down here so that was good for their activities. Several Kiowa County 4-H members and mom’s had a great time at camp.

Laverne and Ilene Eder have had guests from Yuma, Arizona this week. The Eders took Larry and Bev Miller on a tour of Bent’s Fort Sunday afternoon.

Kit Carson Trinity Lutheran Church hosted the annual Vacation Bible School last week with children and helpers coming from several communities for the five days of classes. Their theme was ‘The Lord is my Shepherd" which had lovely lesson folders, crafts, and music as well as other features each day. It was such a blessing to so many children and adults.

We do wish Jerry Jones and his family Best Wishes as he and they move to his new Postmaster position. Jerry has been such a fine Postmaster and we really have appreciated his kindly and helpful manner. We who have heard him play his guitar and banjo know what a great musician he is. A Farewell Reception was hosted Tuesday morning at the Post Office. God bless his family in their new home.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil A. Lessenden, Shannon and Marisa Dixon, and Glenda, Blake, and Colby Stoker attended the Ball family reunion near Hanover. It is so nice for Wanda and others to "Keep in Touch".

We were happy to hear that the Eads seniors and sponsors returned safely from their trip to the Carolinas. They had a good time.

We welcome Ms Erin Hieb back to Eads this summer to work as the Physician’s Assistant at the Weisbrod Clinic and Hospital. She is a very capable and competent health care worker.

Most any evening a person wants to go for a walk or bike or car ride, one can see lots of people out enjoying yard work, or excursing. One of the most scenic routes is to go by the ball field. Usually there are ball games or practices going on. If you are hungry, you can stop by the baseball field concession stand and Elaine Lindholm and her helpers will serve you some good food.

Bonnie (Mays) Eder of Riverton, Wyoming, has been visiting her parent-in-laws between speaking engagements the last two weeks. This week, Laverne and Ilene Eder went to Colorado Springs to the Broadmoor and the Pikes Peak Center to hear Bonnie speak at Christian Women’s Clubs.

Friends of Clara Uhland can visit her at the Eads Nursing Home. Clara is one of our much loved country neighbors.

Harry and Linda (Wilcox) Appel of Lamar have moved back here from Tucumcari, New Mexico. They had a cookout last week which had been planned to honor her Mother, June Wilcox’s birthday, but it was such a rainy day and evening, that June couldn’t go. However, we do wish June a Happy Birthday this month.

The Eads First Christian Church hosted a Vacation Bible School last week for the youth of our community. I certainly do commend all the adults and teens that help sponsor such a wonderful undertaking to spread and teach God’s word.

With all the rain last week, most of the games were postponed till this week, so most teams have two or three games. Now that really keeps families and fans on the road to see those exciting games.

The Eads FFA members (Future Farmers of America) returned Friday from the State Conference at Burlington . Five or more of the students received their State Degrees. This is the highest state award that members can earn. Janie Bush was the girls sponsor and Lance Jagers was the boys sponsor. Monday morning another group of officers and members took off for Buena Vista for their annual camping trip. They were accompanied by their instructor and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Musgrave.

This is an exciting week for many boys and girls in Eads who are attending Kid College at the school. This is arranged by Joan Pryce-Hawkins and is funded locally. Local citizens are the instructors for these two hour sessions between 8 a.m. to noon. "A Tip of the Hat" to Joan for her dedication to kids and for their enrichment.
