Wild Horse Roundup

I had a card from Cathy Pursley a few days ago and said she was glad to hear my hip was improving. She also said they enjoyed the Wild Horse Roundup.

Our congratulations to Jennifer Johnson on her championship run at the State Track meet.

It is nice to hear from Carl Lovell of Cheyenne Wells, after his two weeks stay in Colorado Springs for his hip operation. I have a little idea how he feels.

We had a nice surprise Friday when Bob and Carolyn Pumfrey and daughter, Kay stopped by. Carolyn is a niece of the late Hooley Lafferty. They were on their way to Denver to visit some grandkids and then to the mountains to see Carolyn’s sister, Sue Bollinger. Pumfrey’s live in Illinois.

Our congratulations to the Kit Carson band on winning first at the band meet lately. It seems they are making that a habit.

Jack Johnson brought us some interesting papers he had got off of the internet. They were the final papers of the homesteaders. Lee’s folks and all their neighbors were among them dated 1915. I guess you can find anything with a computer.

We had a pleasant surprise today when James Emmeling and Lian Coman of Hugo stopped by for a visit. It’s nice to visit about fun things instead of all the troubles around.

Saturday was branding day at Marty’s but it didn’t take long as we only had 16 head. Our crew consisted of Allen Naugle, Lonnie Johnson and Andy Drake of Denver. He is my niece’s grandson and his mother, Bonnie, came from Security to spend the weekend with Marty and she was the gate tender. Marty done a little of everything, even holding some calves. I did brand two calves and then just handled irons. Maybe I done something I shouldn’t have as I have a swollen leg with an ice pack on. The pie afterward went over good.

We had a pleasant surprise this Sunday afternoon when Neil and Jerilyn Vick stopped into visit. They had been to Burlington and came back through Kit Carson where they decorated a grave of the Decker family. We sure enjoy having people stopping by.

We were invited to the Maynhan’s 65th anniversary party to have cake and ice cream. We sure enjoyed it as we got to see friends we seldom see and got to meet new people. There were about 25 people there. Everybody brought food so it wasn’t a burden on a few. I think Virginia put it all together and she had the tables all decorated with very pretty flowers and it sure looked nice. We wish for Bertha and Elmer, many more years together.

Well you won’t get any more reports about the bathroom as it is finished. It is no longer a bathroom, as the bathtub has been throwed away and it is now a shower room. It really looks nice.
