Kiowa County 4-H Council Report

The monthly meeting of the 4-H Council met at Haswell on May 19. The meeting was called to order by President, Brian James at 8:00. The following people attended the meeting: Brian James, Shalyn Laird, Vincent Koeller, Bruce Fickenscher, Kaye Kasza, Bonnie Lessenden, Brenda Fickenscher, Areta Laird, Dawn and Jessica James, Shane, Dally and Shane Lessenden, Linda Stum, Gail Koeller and Megan Fickenscher.

Shalyn read the minutes from our previous meeting. Jessica gave the Treasurers report.

The Livestock Show Committee has added a few new rules for the upcoming Kiowa Fair on September 10-13. They are: 1. A Thank you card(s) to the buyer of your animal(s) has to be turned into the Extension Office before you will be receiving your check for your animal(s) or award. This new rule in also for the Food Auction members. 2. After the show of your animal the member and his/her parent needs to go to the fair office and complete the card for each individual animal. If you do not get this done you will NOT be selling your animal and you will be taking your animal home after the fair. Also, Ram Lambs do not have to be registered to show at the fair.

The Livestock Committee/Extension Office is looking for a Swine Superintendent.

The 4-H Camp Scholarship was discussed if you are interested please contact the Extension Office.

Weigh – In dates for Market Swine and Market Sheep are: June 2, 9:00 a.m. in Sheridan Lake at the Woelk Quonset. June 2, 1:00 p.m. in Eads at the FFA Farm.

 

Horse and Shooting Sports members are having monthly meetings. Horse members are meeting the 4th Thursday of each month. Shooting Sports members are meeting the 4th Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. Safety Rules will be discussed at the beginning of each shoot, if you are NOT there for the safety rules you will NOT be shooting that day.

The council voted Bonnie Lessenden as the Concession Stand Coordinator.

Kiowa County Horse Show Plans have been finalized. The show will take place June 7, 2003.

Milly Spady was appointed to the District Senate Executive Committee.

The County Creative Cooks/Demonstration/Cake Decoration Contest will be June 25, 2003 to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the Demonstrations to be held before the Cake Decoration Contest.

Council meeting times was voted on and approved to start at 7:00 p.m. for the remainder of this year.

June 25, Kiowa County Creative Cooks/Demonstration/Cake Decorating Contest. June 25, 4-H Council – Eads, 7:00 p.m. June 29, Burlington Shooting Sports. July 8th (afternoon and evening) & 9th (morning), Camp Out at the Queens Lake. July 12, District Horse Show
