Eads FFA Wraps Up School Year

The Eads FFA Chapter entered two teams in the Quiz Bowl Contests on April 2, 2003. Team A consisted of Jennifer Lynn, Adam Saffer, Brandon Cordova, and Hunter Uhland. Vance Cole, Tasha Hueller, Adrienn Adamson, and Rachel Brown made up the B Team. Both Quiz Bowl teams did an excellent job. Team A placed 2nd out of the six teams that participated in the contest. They will be the alternate for Quiz Bowl at this year’s State Convention.

On April 9, 2003, the Eads FFA Chapter participated in the District Career Development Events. We had twenty-four members participate in the six different contests. Preston Hoffman, Levi Kraft, Dustin Batterton, and Casey Gibbs participated in the Ag Mechanics Contest. The Farm/Ranch Management Team consisted of Nick Barnard, Shawn Kraft, Ryan Trosper, and Josh Fry. Elise Deverman, Holli Watson, Kelly Lindholm, Bruce Laird, and Joe Andrew Bush made up the Crops Judging Team. The Meats Team consisted of Sarah McCoin. Darci Weeks, Heather Miller, T.J. Watts, and Briana Kerfoot participated in the Horse Judging Contest. The Livestock Judging Team included Lesa Cole, Cody Cordova, Jennifer Lynn, A.J. McCracken, Brad Rehm, and Ashley Brown. The following Eads teams made it to state and placed the corresponding placing in the Arkansas Valley District: Ag Mechanics-3rd, Farm/Ranch Management-2nd, Crops-2nd, Horse-2nd, and Livestock-2nd.

The Eads FFA Chapter held the annual Kiddy Barnyard Day on April 15, 2003. We had many animals to show the kids, such as, baby chickens, baby turkeys, full grown chickens, rabbits, baby pigs, a sheep, baby lambs, a horse, a miniature horse, a nanny goat, a Billy goat, and baby goats. We had farm equipment to show them as well, which included a grain truck, grain grinder, tractor, welding truck, and a semi truck used to haul livestock in. After looking at the animals and equipment, the kids were brought into the classroom where Darci and Briana taught them how different agriculture products, such as wheat, can be used to make cookies. Barnyard Day had a great turnout, and we hope that we taught the kids a little about agriculture.

The Eads FFA Chapter held their 8th annual chapter banquet at the community building on April 28, 2003. The banquet is designed to recognize the members for their hard work throughout the year. There is always one member who attends more FFA activities throughout the year and by doing so they earn FFA points. This year the high points earner was Jace Roberson. There is also an award given to one member from each class. This year the following won those awards: Vance Cole – Star Greenhand, A.J. McCracken – Star Chapter Farmer, Ashley Brown – Outstanding Ag III, and Casey Gibbs – Dekalb Award. The 2003-2004 Officer Team was installed at the banquet as well. The new officer team consists of: Ashley Brown – President, Shawn Kraft – Vice President, Darci Weeks – Secretary, Kelly Lindholm – Treasurer, Heather Miller – Reporter, Nick Barnard – Sentinel, and Jennifer Lynn – Parliamentarian. Our banquet had a great turnout, and we appreciate the community’s support.

State Judging Contests were held at CSU in Fort Collins on May 5, 2003. We had five teams go to state: Ag Mechanics, Crops, Farm/Ranch Management, Livestock, and Horse. All teams did a great job. Holli Watson received a blue ribbon, or gold award, for individual achievement in Crops Judging. Elise Deverman and Kelly Lindholm were each awarded a white ribbon, or bronze award, for individual achievement in Crops Judging. The Crops Team placed in the silver category and received a plaque for their achievement. Jennifer Lynn received a white ribbon, or bronze award, for individual achievement in Livestock Judging. Nick Barnard and Ryan Trosper were each awarded a white ribbon, or bronze award, for individual achievement in Farm/Ranch Management. Preston Hoffman brought back a white ribbon, or bronze award, in Ag Mechanics. Congratulations for a job well done!
