Progressive FCE Club Meets

Ladies of the FCE (Family and Community Education) Club met at the home of Doris and Ida Lessenden April 17, 2003 for their monthly meeting with Doris as hostess since Shirley Nelson and Rubie Weisdorfer were not well.

President Maxine Mays opened the meeting by reading an essay on "attitudes". Ruth Wissel read the minutes and gave the treasurer’s report. The members answered the roll call by telling about a place or trip they have enjoyed in Colorado. These revealed a number of heartwarming experiences.

Margie Wiltfang sent a letter to the club and also tickets to sell for a John Mendoza print of one of his prized paintings. This will be given at the state meeting in Creede. Sis Howard and Doris showed mail box they will decorate for the state contest. Sis Howard is making gingham place mats and napkins for the state meeting competition and Zelda Peterson is quilting a wall hanging.

During the inspiration time, Sis Howard, gave each lady a copy of "A Lesson from the Geese" which she read. The lesson listed five facts about the ways geese fly and then a comment on how we as humans ought to behave like geese to show more encouragement, leadership, compassion, and other qualities in our lives to be more attune to life as the geese are. Doris gave each lady a plastic egg with chocolate kisses and an empty note paper. The members wrote a message of encouragement or complement to the lady to the right of them and then gave it to her.

Ruth Wissel gave a two part lesson. The first was an article from the Capper’s Weekly about sports. One of the more profound statements was the most student ball players in any sports say they would rather play ball than sit on the bench of a winning team. They would rather lose a game and get a chance to play ball. The other part of her lesson was vivid photos of the planting of the living snow fence west of the county fair grounds. The photos showed adults and teenagers from a number of towns who spent a cold March Saturday to plant about 800 trees. She had photos of the special tractors, planters, plastic rolls, irrigation tubes, and tools that they had for such a big job. She and Mary Marble free served coffee and hot chocolate with brownies and cookies all day long. These ladies are members of the Rebekah Lodge.

The next meeting will be May 15th at the Center with Nola Engstrom as hostess.
