My deepest sympathy to the Vanderwork and Shields' families for the loss of Vernon Vanderwork. Vernon was a rare jewel who his friends and family will always remember.

The Sheridan Lake Bible Church is holding a Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday at 5:30 a.m. The service will be at Carl Schmidt's "Rock Hill" on April 20.

The junior class is having a knowledge bowl meet and soup supper April 24. The soup served will be beef and noodle and creamy potato. The dinner starts at 5 p.m. and the meet promptly at 6 p.m. If you are interested in participating in or helping with the knowledge bowl meet please call Kami Stum or Jamie Crowell.

The Plainview National Honor Society is sponsoring a canned-food drive through the month of April. The collected food will be distributed to local food banks and the Ronald McDonald House. There is a drop-off box at the school as well as the post office in Sheridan Lake. Call Plainview School for more information.

The Plainview senior class is hosting a carnival May 1 from 5-8 p.m. (this is a date change from April 25). Please feel free to join them, visit the booths and enjoy the concessions. If anyone or any group would like to purchase a booth, call Sharon Arns or one of the seniors at 729-3331.

Seven students from Plainview junior and senior high school and two sponsors attended the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair Thursday through Saturday. Bruce and Brenda Fickenscher, Katha Greuel, Vicki Spect, Kami Stum, Miranda Weber, Erin Specht, Trey Thayer, and Jayme Berggren left Wednesday afternoon and spent the next few days in Ft. Collins at Colorado State University. They participated in the judging, attended the awards presentation, had a pizza party, and interacted with the public because of their science fair projects. In their free time, they swam, shopped, or napped. Friday morning, the four high school girls, Katha, Kami, Vicki, and Miranda, had the opportunity to tour the university's anatomy lab. They viewed three cadavers and were able to see and hold various organs. They enjoyed the opportunity. The group didn't win anything, but gained experience for next year's fair.

Dick and Sharon Scott attended the Fish and Game Banquet in Lamar Saturday evening.

Mary Louise Huddleston, Tom Scott, and Dick and Sharon Scott attended the funeral of Mary Owen in Argonia, Kansas, on Tuesday.

Doris and Darrel Anderson traveled to Garden City for Ken and Wanda Giskie's 50th wedding anniversary. While they were there, they saw Bill and Erma Andrews. Bill and Erma say "hi" to all who know them!

Larry and Judy Tuttle hosted a birthday party for their granddaughter Emily Koehn Saturday. Emily and her parents, Mike and Rhonda of Breckenridge; as well as Kim and Tim Freeman of Trinidad; Clovis and Lorene Uptergrove and Bernice Tuttle of Towner; Linsey, Eric, Tre, and Austin Jensen of Holly; Chuck and Nadella Koehn, Esther Koehn and Lisa, Megan, and Katelyn Roberston of Tribune, Kansas; and Evelyn Drew of Syracuse, Kansas, all enjoyed a happy three-year-old's birthday party. 

Ron and Ruth Buller attended Ron's aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary Sunday in Hilsboro, Kansas.

Monte, Linda, and Kami Stum and Jamie Crowell traveled to Colorado Springs Monday to take a tour of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs' campus. They enjoyed the tour, had lunch, and returned home.
