Wild Horse RoundupApril 4, 2003 Well, I’m back after a much longer stay than I expected. My hip was one of the least of my worries. I was operated on the 5th of March at 7:30 a.m. and when I came out of it my throat hurt so bad I couldn’t hardly swallow and my tongue and inside my mouth was really sore. I had to gargle and swish to clean it up. The doctor recommended some stuff to drink with my meals and that didn’t work as it came up faster than it went down. Steve brought me to Hugo about a week ago from Denver and I couldn’t have been treated any nicer. You would have thought I was royalty. The price of the pills I am taking you would think it was pheasant-under-glass. Well I just finished my exercises I am supposed to take. A therapist comes and puts me through my paces. While in Denver I appreciated my company. Gary Terrill came twice and his wife, Joe Schmitt, daughter and granddaughter, Tuff Johnson twice, Steve and family and Steve’s mother and father-in-law, a phone call from Chuck Keller and Darrell and Yvonne Schallenberger came in. Walt and Jim Loflin came to see me in Hugo. They were heading for home after attending their Aunt Edith Loflin’s funeral in Kit Carson. Their mother was my 8th grade teacher.

Joe and Eva Kregel stopped in today to visit and to see how I was getting along. It is nice to know your neighbors are there to help. Tony Hammer has been feeding four mornings a week and Allen Naugle said if you need any help just holler. We talked to Lee Ann and girls this morning and it has been a sad week as John’s mother passed away last Sunday and the funeral was yesterday (Friday) so the family was kind of down. There was a nice crowd with a dinner. Over there the family furnishes the food. Lee Ann furnished the main course of two prepared large kettle of stew and others brought cakes. I think everyone stayed late to visit. I’m sure it will leave an empty spot for Kirsti, Jessi and Jenni as she lived out their kitchen door just a little ways away. Sunday morning my two private nurses are taking good care of me, for which I am eternally grateful. Marty just came back from reading meters that I take care of. It sounds like she is filling the wood box plus starting dinner.
