Progressive FCE Club Meets

Ruth Wissel was the hostess for the Eads Progressive Family, Community Education Club meeting March 20, 2003 at the home of Ida and Doris Lessenden. President Maxine Mays chaired the meeting. After the members read the Club Creed, the answered roll call by showing photos that were meaningful to them. Some photos were of great grandchildren, weddings, and relatives. Zelda Peterson showed a photo of her husband, Carl’s, father’s home in Sweden. It was a small home where his father was one of 16 children who were raised. It was a large remarkable photo of the home and family members.

Zelda read an interesting letter from the Director of Colorado Boys Ranch about a teenage boy who was rehabilitated enough to return home. CBR really does appreciate donations that help them guide boys to better, healthier lives. The members also discussed their projects for the state meeting.

Sis Howard gave the ladies copies of a collection of poems for inspiration time. Doris led the lesson on encouraging random acts of kindness and reaching out to others. Discussion centered around ways of sharing with others who may be lonely. She told about the University of Nebraska study on "loneliness" which showed that the loneliest people are in this order: 1. college students, 2. divorced people, 3. single people, 4. housewives, and 5. the elderly. The members were challenged to think of ways they could "reach out" to these groups of people.

Zelda Peterson brought a beautiful sailor’s ladder pattern quilt designed in a mono- chromatic color harmony in shades of blues. Her daughter, Charlotte, will be happy to receive it after it is bound.

Ruth served a wonderful cherry cake with cream topping complimented by coffee, candies, and nuts accompanied with pretty shamrock napkins like the ones she took to the Nursing Home for favors. The next meeting will be April 17th with Rubie Weisdorfer and Shirley Nelson as hostesses.
