112 Day Report from the Southeast Colorado Bull Test

On March 18 the final weights were taken for the bulls in the 29th annual Southeast Colorado Bull Test. The average daily gain (ADG) for the 112 day feeding period is recorded at 4.06 pounds per day, one of the highest gain averages ever recorded. Overall the bulls have an average age of 379 days giving a weight per day of age (WDA) of 2.96 pounds.

The bulls are continuing to gain extremely well for being in the final stages of the test. All of the bulls posted an ADG of over 3 pounds per day. Seventeen of the bulls are still gaining over 4 pounds per day. Across the five breeds represented in this years test, the ADG ranges from 3.79 to 4.20. As in last years test the Gelbviehs are the top gaining breed with a 4.20 pounds per day followed by the Angus with a 4.15 pounds per day. The bulls have been on the same "Grower Ration" for the entire feeding period.

This years sale will conclude the eleventh year that the Dorenkamps have participated with the test.

April 3, 2003 will be the 29th annual sale of the Southeast Colorado Bull Test "Weigh Better Bulls". The sale will be held at the feedlot south of Holly, Colorado from 1 to 3 P.M. Come early to inspect the bulls and visit with the individual producers. Lunch will be provided. All of the bulls have been checked for breeding soundness and ultra-sound data will be available the day of the sale. EPDs will be published in the sale catalog.
