Weather Spotter Training Course to be Held in Lamar

The National Weather Service in Pueblo will be conducting a Severe Weather SKYWARN spotter Training Session in Lamar at Lamar Community College, Room BW 138, beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.

The session is designed for both existing Weather Spotters and new Weather Spotters. The session will describe hoe the Weather Spotter is involved in the "warning decision process," and will discuss severe weather procedures and identification. Still photos and interesting video will be show in the severe weather identification section of the session. Weather Spotters are volunteers who report severe weather conditions, such as large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes, etc. directly to the National Weather Service in Pueblo via a toll-free 800 telephone number.

Weather Spotters will continue to be a most important link in the National Weather Service’s severe weather warning decision process. Information from weather spotters has often allowed for confirmation of severe weather after an official warning has been issued, and occasionally are the first notice that severe weather has developed in an area. Any current Weather Spotter or anyone interested in becoming a Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service in Pueblo is encouraged to attend the session.
