District VI 4-H Senate Report

Twelve-year-old Amanda Gardner of Bent County has been chosen as the District VI Outstanding Junior 4-H Member for the month of February. The four-year member of the Green Acres 4-H Club has been involved in horse, market sheep, market goats, breeding goats, decorate your duds, and shooting sports through her years in 4H.

She was also involved in Cloverbud Mini 4-H for four years before she joined 4-H. She is active on the club, county, district and state levels, participating in District All-Nighters; county, district, and state Fun Festival; Operation Easter Bunny; a Bake Sale/Fundraiser; Quality Assurance Ethics meetings; Bent County Fair Kids Day; the Bent County Fair Buyers Breakfast; Fairground Cleanup; Bent County Fair Clerking; and showing goats at the state fair.

Amanda is the Green Acres Vice President, volunteers at monthly mini 4-H meetings, served on the Bent County Fair Kids Day committee, teaches younger members showmanship skills. Amanda says she is involved with 4-H because "not only do I enjoy being a 4-H member, it gives me the opportunity to sell my market animals at the county fair and save that money for college. I think 4-H always has been and always will be a great learning experience for anyone willing to become a member." She has gained self-confidence, and learned the rewards of working hard at something. This Las Animas Middle School seventh-grader is also involved in volleyball, basketball, track, summer softball, student council secretary, MathCounts Club, a talent search with Trinidad State College, United Methodist Youth Group, and band. Congratulations, Amanda!
