Salvation Army Store Closes Doors

Due to a Lack of Volunteers

The Salvation Army Store located in Eads has, at least temporarily, closed its doors due to a lack of volunteers to operate the store. The store, which has been in operation since 1996, has provided a low cost supply of used clothing and smaller household goods for Kiowa County residents. The store also draws shoppers from Prowers, Cheyenne, and Bent counties as well as travelers who stop when passing through Eads.

According to local Salvation Army officials, proceeds from the store have been utilized to provide assistance to local individuals and families for such needs as groceries, medications, emergency shelter, and assistance with utility bills. Until the Salvation Army store arrived, much of this assistance had to be provided at taxpayer’s expense through the Department of Social Services.

Local Salvation Army officials remain hopeful that enough volunteers can be secured to re-open the store in the near future. While the store remains closed, officials are asking that no donated merchandise be brought to the store since storage does not exist for it. In the event volunteers cannot be secured to operate the store, the store will likely close permanently. For more information please contact the Department of Social Services at 438-5541.
