Obituary - Wanda M. Paxson

This is a gathering of her family to say goodbye to Wanda; wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. In life she was a quiet and unassuming woman, and it was her wish that in death she would have a quiet graveside service with her family. Wanda was easily embarrassed when praised or brought to the attention of others.

Wanda born in Cheyenne wells lived all of her life in Cheyenne County. She lived in Kit Carson for 45 years. For more than 30 of those years she worked in the restaurant business both as an employee and running them.

Her sons will always remember her as a mother that loved and encouraged them, was there for both the achievements, good times and the not so good times. She was easy to talk to would listen and not judge but give advice when asked.

With out making it a big production, she tried to do the right thing and to live her life the very best way she could, she did not complain about her day-to-day troubles, but made the best of each day. She was known for her easygoing nature and as a person that did not judge others. It was a rare day that she did not have a smile and a good word for the people around her. For the past few years she has fought cancer, and when asked how she was doing the answer was always, "Oh, I am doing pretty good." The pain she suffered might show in her face and in her walk but she did not voice it or complain of it.

Everyone here will have memories and stories of her that are personal that can make us smile. Yes she will be missed, for she blessed our lives with her presence. The best thing we can do for her is to remember her and to keep those memories alive. From her life we can learn patience, to not judge others and to put others first. If she is watching us now, her face will be bit flushed form embarrassment for all the attention she is receiving.

So it is with sadness we say our last goodbyes, but also with gladness, glad that she is no longer suffering any pain and she is reaping the rewards for a life lived as we might all try in some small way to emulate. That is the best complement we can give anyone in life and in death.
