About Town

Our sincere sympathy to the family of Wes Brown. God bless and comfort his family is the prayer of their friends. Wes was a mail carrier around Eads for many years. He always carried "candy" for the "kids", many of whom are grown up now and have careers of their own. They will always remember him as a kind and caring man.

Pansy Foxworthy hosted a card party at her home Wednesday afternoon. Melissa Peterson, Zelda Peterson, Faye Barber, and I enjoyed a very fun afternoon with delicious refreshments. We all won a few and lost a few. Thanks, Pansy for an enjoyable afternoon. We noticed that the roof on the Senior Center is about finished.

Eads High School hosted 30 teams for the Knowledge Bowl meet Friday. This was arranged and directed by Bryan Kinnamon and Dawn James. The Karval, Eads, and McClave teams ranked at the top. It’s a special time for area schools to meet here and quite a challenge for students involved in the program.

Friday afternoon, the junior high played their last home game here with Karval. It’s always fun to watch. After the junior high games, the Second and Third Graders sang the "Stars Spangled Banner" very beautifully. A tip of the hat to Dawn James for letting us enjoy the local talent.

June Blooding was the honored Senior Citizen during the Karval-Eads games. She is a very deserving parent and grandparent who enjoys and attends many activities and is a good friend to all.

We see Lane Gooden’s parents come from Pritchett to enjoy the games too. I’m sure they have great pride in Eads’ number #12 and well deserved. We wish the Eads Junior High Boys and Girls "Good Luck" at the upcoming basketball tournament at Cheyenne Wells this week.

I noticed also that Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Neiman and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Saffer of Flager come to most games to see their grandson, Adam, and granddaughter, Destiny,

Freshman and 8th grader play. I think they deserve some kind of award, don’t you?

Sincere sympathy to the family of Wanda Paxton of Kit Carson who ran the Trading Post café there for many years. In my humble opinion, she baked the best pies you could buy.

Faye Barber visited Vivian Gifford Monday evening and took her some goodies she made. She said Vivian is doing better. That is good to hear.

Betty Mollenberg of Idalia was down to visit her mother, Arla Durrett, over the weekend.

FFA members, Lesa and Vance Cole, of Eads High School showed their goats at the National Western Stock Show in Denver last week. Lesa and her goat, "Hugo", won 3rd in the Showmanship Contest and 6th in her class. Vance and his goat, "Socks" placed second in his class and was in the top 10 overall. There were exhibitors from many states, such as Florida, Texas, and the mid west.

Mr. and Mrs. Devin Kelley and children of Colorado Springs were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Offill, nice to see them.

Stratton High School came Saturday to play basketball. They had a really good Pep Club and Cheerleaders. It looked as if there was a pretty full house of people to see the games. They did see good games too. It was nice again to see that most of the team members got to play. That is helpful for self-esteem. Congratulations to Shirley Watts who was honored as the Senior Citizen. She is a special lady who makes it to most all the games. A tip of the hat to Shirley.

Congratulations to Larry E. Gifford and Charlene Reed of Eads who were married in Hawaii over the Christmas holidays.

Wasn’t it nice to see Katie Couric, the charming television reporter with the service men and women overseas in Saudi Arabia? They must have felt blessed with the time and effort she and her staff puts forth. God bless her and them all is my prayer.

Congratulations to Monte and Tracie Weeks of Kit Carson whose baby girl, Jordyn Lynn, arrived last week. The happy grandparents are D.L. and Judy Weeks of Eads and Ken and Judy Jacobs of north Galatea.

Happy Birthday this week to three special great grandchildren, Rachel R. Buck, Sam and Emma Hirsch. God bless them in the years to come.

Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Lessenden and Mr. and Mrs. Shane Lessenden and children attended the National Western Stock Show Saturday. I’m sure they enjoyed it to the fullest.

Senator Mark Hillman of Burlington, Colorado, proposed a good bill for the senate "against false statements in campaigns" that should be needed to protect people’s character who are running for elective offices. Last year’s campaign certainly called for this measure….in my humble opinion.

The Eads wrestlers went to Wiggins Saturday where Cody Cordova and Hunter Uhland won third place in their weight classes and Kelly Lindholm captured the first place championship. This weekend, they go to Strasburg.

Miguel and Gabriella Roa and Daniel went to Maullin, Chile to visit their families there during Christmas. The Roa’s work in Colorado Springs and Daniel is a student at Colorado State University.
