Obituary - Irene Mabel Troue, 96

Irene Mabel, age 96, of Cheyenne Wells, passed December 28, 2002 at Cheyenne Wells.

Irene was born December 23, 1906 at Coon Valley, Wisconsin to Anton I. and Marie (Anderson) Johnson. The family moved to a homestead south of Wild Horse when she was three years old.

Irene attended Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley for two years obtaining her Teacher’s Certificate. She taught 15 years at Arena, Brown School and Aroya.

Irene married Henry C. Troue on June 17, 1933 at Limon. The couple lived south of Kit Carson until Hank’s death in 1971 when Irene moved to Kit Carson.

Irene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Kit Carson, Lutheran Ladies Guild, Busy Bee Club, Kit Carson Museum Association, and the Kit Carson Senior Center. Irene enjoyed craft items, and traveling. She made numerous trips across the U.S. and one trip to Europe and Hawaii.

Survivors include two daughters Norma and husband Don Emerson of Elizabeth and Judyann and husband Johnny Patterson of Lincoln, Nebraska, one granddaughter April Patterson and one great grandson Joshuah Patterson of Grand Island, Nebraska, a sister Judith Holt of Cheyenne Wells, two brothers Adolph and wife Margaret Johnson of Kit Carson and Vernon Johnson of Aurora. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Norman Henry, and two brothers Kenneth and Robert.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kit Carson with Rev. Lawrence Dye, officiating. Burial followed in the Kit Carson Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Kit Carson. Love Funeral Home of Limon, Burlington, Cheyenne Wells was in charge of arrangements.
