About TownJanuary 3, 2003 I wish you readers a most happy and blessed new year and for every kindness, every thoughtful thing you did for anyone or me; you are so appreciated and loved. I ask our Heavenly Father to bless you. I was told that some high school senior boys and girls decorated the Christmas tree and the room at the Eads Senior Citizens Center. We really appreciate your doing this for us. The Eads Senior Citizens had their Christmas party on the 16th with three tables of card players who enjoyed a fun time. Then they drew for prizes of assorted loaves of fruit breads and then for the gift exchange. We’d like to thank the ladies who planned it and for the wonderful refreshments. Sis Howard visited her long time country neighbors, Johnny and Clara Uhland. They had a great visit. We are glad the Howard’s moved back to Eads to make their home. They are wonderful friends and neighbors to us too. James and Elise Deverman spent part of the vacation in New Mexico with their grandparents and Dad. They had fun trip on the Amtrak train too. Marisa and Dylan Dixon visited us one evening. They and Doris surely had a joyful time painting and creating colored pencil drawings. Faye Barber headed to Denver last week to spend the holidays with her children and families. Eunice Weber spent the weekend with her sister, Susie, in Denver. How nice for this busy grandmother to get a little holiday of her own. Pansy Foxworthy has been spending the holiday in Kansas City with her son’s families there. Betsy Evans visited us last week to bring us one of her great blueberry pies. She’s special. Doris appreciated Katie Bost coming to visit after she returned from college in Gunnison at Western State. She was also going to Missouri with her father and family for a while.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Crum and Hunter spent Christmas in Kansas City with some of their family there. We were glad to have Michael Zimmerman visit us when he was home from the University in Boulder. The Eads Senior Citizens enjoyed their noon dinner on the 18th. The main dish was a delicious ham furnished by Barlow Farms and thanks to them. Guests were Pastors Gary and DeEtta Goettle of Lamar and Delores Rector’s twin brother. Faye Barber announced that Della Brice’s birthday would be the 24th and people are invited to her party. It was announced that Margie Wiltfang is teaching 55 Alive classes on driving safety and our New Year’s Eve Party would be the afternoon of December 31. After election these are the officers: President: Faye Barber, Vice President: Zelda Peterson, Secretary: Esther McCoin, and Treasurer: Gloria Peck. We thank Betty Crow and Pam Addington for their years of service as officers. Mary Anne Hulteen was presented with a check of appreciation from the Center for her service as our coordinator. The January 21st noon lunch will be a pot luck meal. I want to thank President Faye Barber for all her efforts in preparing and arranging foods and planning special meals and parties. She has made many baked products and made handicrafts in her effort to raise money for the Center. She gives so much time to arrange meals and events. We see what you do, Faye, and we do appreciate your efforts - God bless you. Our sincere sympathy to the family of Frank Barlow of Lamar who passed away suddenly on the evening of December 22. Frank was a rancher for many years in the Chivington community where he and Marge raised their six children. God bless and comfort this family. When our children were small, Frank’s parents ran sheep south of us. When a blizzard came suddenly after the ewes had been shirred many of the ewes died. So the Barlow’s gave some of the lambs to our children to bottle feed and raise. They loved caring for those lambs. They kept them in the basement till the weather cleared that was in the l940’s before Doris had polio. They called their favorite lamb "Frankie" for Frank Barlow who had come home from WWII. Melissa Peterson and Gerard Bachand were Christmas dinner guests in the Carl and Zelda Peterson home. Members of the FCE club met at Sis Howard’s home the 19th. They had a lovely Christmas meeting and then a number of Sis’s neighbors came afterwards to have refreshments and a tour of their new home. Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Lessenden hosted their Christmas Eve family dinner following the Candle light Service at the Haswell United Methodist Church. We’ve always had such a fun time there in years past. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Buck hosted Dreama’s family Christmas evening dinner in their lovely home. Virgyln Griswould, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hirsch and family and myself enjoyed the time and sitting around the tree. How the children enjoyed opening their packages. It was a special time for this great grandma to see the joy of Christmas to them. Then we enjoyed pumpkin pie with topping before heading home praising God for His wonderful gifts and joy. Oh and I did so enjoy seeing the beautifully decorated homes about town. It was a joy to see. The Haswell WestEnders Senior Citizens had a lovely Christmas Dinner prepared by Wanda, their coordinator and served by her granddaughter, Dally. Jimmy R. Brown played the dinner music on the piano. What a treat to hear him! December 26 my family all came for our family Christmas. It takes a lot of effort to work it out for so many to get together. Jacob, Shaner, and Sam were Santa’s helpers. The children sang Christmas carols for us. It was so good to hear them and to see all the clean up cooperation too. What a grand evening. It warmed my heart with special happiness |
